Filipino People

Formerly a United States territory, the Philippines was granted its sovereignty in 1946, but a strong natural affinity with U.S. culture remains even today.

The Philippines is the third largest English speaking country in the world, and English, one of two official languages, is the primary method of classroom instruction for nearly 450,000 graduates annually. There is also an overabundance of degreed nurses in the Philippines, many of whom are members of the WorldSource Healthcare team. This, combined with the Filipino people’s natural aptitude for language and acquiring preferred accents, produces a well-equipped English speaking workforce familiar with American culture.

It is, however, their inherently calm and dependable demeanor, combined with a cultural reverence for elders and innate tendency for creative problem solving, that makes the Filipino people truly excel in the country’s well paid customer service roles, which are considered the heart of the country’s growing middle class.

Filipino Infrastructure

The Philippines is home to a wealth of both natural and man-made resources and is a strategic hub for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) with a business friendly regulatory environment. It features a stable presidential system of government with limited terms and congressional and judicial branches modeled on the U.S. system of government.

Metropolitan Manila is one of the fastest growing and most cosmopolitan regions in the world. It is the political, cultural, social, educational, financial, commercial and industrial center of the Philippines and houses nearly 25 million people within its boundaries.

Due to the high growth rate, roll out of infrastructure projects has been accelerated with the 2012 national budget allocating the equivalent of $4 billion USD for new bridges, roads, airports, seaports, classrooms, water supply, irrigation and flood control. The skylines of the central business districts already are filled with state-of-the-art commercial high rises.

Filipino Economy

Long recognized for its amazingly resilient financial system, Manila is the 28th wealthiest urban area in the world and is home to the second fastest growing economy in Asia.

Business process outsourcing is the most dynamic and fastest growing industry in the Philippines, employing 925,000 people and reaching total revenues of approximately $16 billion in 2013. The Filipino outsourcing sector surpassed India in the sale of voice related outsourcing services and recently took the number three spot for the world’s top outsourcing destination.

It is estimated an additional 700,000 jobs generating an expected revenue of $25 billion could be added by 2016.
